Lucy Connolly, the wife of a Conservative councillor, was sentenced to 31 months in jail for inciting racial hatred on social media against asylum-seekers. She posted a message on Twitter calling for mass deportation and setting fire to hotels housing asylum-seekers. Connolly also joked about the consequences of her tweet and indicated she would use the “mental health card” if arrested, despite being aware of the volatile situation she was contributing to.
