A long-lost painting by Baroque master Peter Paul Rubens, depicting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, was sold at auction in Versailles for 2.3 million euros after being hidden for over four centuries. Recently discovered in a private Paris townhouse, its authenticity was confirmed by scientific analysis and the Rubenianum committee. Art expert Nils Büttner noted that this work uniquely portrays Christ as a dead body on the cross, a rare depiction by Rubens. The painting had previously been valued at under 10,000 euros and was once owned by 19th-century painter William Bouguereau.
