Michael O’Shaughnessy, an illustrator and lecturer, conducts innovative workshops called “Perfume Stories” in prisons, encouraging participants to create art based on scents to evoke memories. These sessions have shown that scent can equalize participants of varying abilities, prompting reflections on positive past experiences. Collaborating with fragrance creators, O’Shaughnessy has developed bespoke scents for the workshops, which have expanded beyond English classes to include hospitality and business studies, enhancing skills like writing, analysis, and debate among inmates.
