The once-thriving border village of Martoli in Uttarakhand has dwindled to just a few summer visitors due to the sealing of the border after the 1962 India-China conflict. While 77-year-old Kishan Singh returns annually to cultivate the fertile land, only three to four people now occupy the village, which has seen the emergence of a new guesthouse for trekkers heading to the Nanda Devi Base Camp.
