Evidence has emerged of friendly ties between the Chinese government and Liberal candidate Peter Yuen, who attended a military parade in Beijing at the invitation of a Chinese agency influencing ethnic Chinese abroad. Yuen and other Canadians were hosted in Beijing to watch the parade marking the 70th anniversary of Japan’s defeat in WWII, with their expenses covered by China. While Yuen maintains his participation was to strengthen ties and recognize Canada’s role in the war, critics warn of Chinese interference in Canadian society through such tactics.
