At least 26 migrants died when two boats sank off the coast of Italy’s Lampedusa island, with around 10 others missing, according to coastguard and UN officials. The boats, which had departed from Tripoli, Libya, capsized in the central Mediterranean, prompting rescue efforts that saved 60 individuals; Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the actions of human traffickers and called for stronger measures to prevent irregular departures.
