The wreck of the luxury steamer Lac La Belle, which sank in 1872 in Lake Michigan, was discovered nearly 150 years later by a team led by shipwreck hunter Paul Ehron. The vessel was found about 20 miles offshore between Racine and Kenosha, Wisconsin, after a search that began in 1965. Despite delays in announcing the discovery, the team plans to create a 3D video model of the wreck, which remains mostly intact but is covered in quagga mussels. The Lac La Belle is Ehron’s 15th shipwreck find as he continues his quest to locate more historic vessels.
