The Australian government is investing $37 million over five years into the National Continuous Checking Capability (NCCC) to enhance the monitoring of Working With Children Check (WWCC) holders for criminal activity. This initiative aims to close information-sharing gaps among states and territories, ensuring that a WWCC ban in one area applies nationally. Attorney-General Michelle Rowland emphasized that the system will provide real-time updates on criminal histories, thereby improving child safety. The announcement follows recent allegations of child abuse in early learning centers and new federal laws aimed at enforcing safety standards in childcare.
