Reif Cotter died after falling from a moving vehicle while holding a mattress, leading to his cousin Trinity Brown being sentenced to 12 months of home detention for reckless driving causing his death. Judge Russell Collins acknowledged Brown’s guilty plea and her acceptance of responsibility, stating, “You clearly are a good person who has done something you will regret for the rest of your life.” Brown appeared in the Napier District Court following the tragic incident involving her relative.
