The Kremlin announced that a Russian prisoner in the United States will be freed soon in exchange for the release of American schoolteacher Marc Fogel, who recently returned to the US after spending over three years in a Russian prison. The prisoner’s identity will not be disclosed until after the release, with talks between the US and Russia facilitating the agreement. Fogel, arrested in Moscow in 2021 for drug smuggling, was greeted by President Trump upon his return, with the White House referring to his release as an “exchange” without specifying what Russia will receive in return.
