Rakuten Kobo, the makers of the popular Kobo e-readers recently unveiled two new colour e-readers named Kobo Libra Colour and Kobo Clara Colour. These new e-readers are powered by a Kobo-optimised colour E Ink Kaleido 3 display, which the company says “offers a subtle palette that retains the benefits of E Ink technology.”
Both coloured Readers are repairable and offer an IPX8 rating, meaning you can submerge them in up to 2 meters of water for an hour.
Kobo Libra Colour
The Kobo Libra Colour is the company’s first 7-inch device that supports notebooks, ebook annotations and also lets sync their files to Google Drive and Dropbox. It is compatible with the Kobo Stylus 2 and offers 32GB of onboard storage, which the company claims can store up to 24,000 eBooks or around 150 audiobooks.
If you fully charge the Kobo Libra Colour for 30 minutes of reading power day with the brightness set to 30 per cent and WiFi and Bluetooth turned off, the eReader will last up to 40 days.
Kobo Clara Colour
The Kobo Clara Colour has a 6-inch coloured display and offers 16GB of internal storage, which means you can store approximately 12,000 eBooks or 75 Kobo audiobooks. Similar to the Kobo Libra Colour, the device will last for a few weeks on a single charge if you set the front light to 10 per cent brightness and turn off both WiFi and Bluetooth.
The company also announced an upgraded black-and-white version of the Kobo Clara BW, which offers more storage and a faster processor. The Kobo Libra Colour and Kobo Clara Colour are priced at $219.99 and $149.99 respectively. However, it is still unclear if and when these eReaders will be available for purchase in India.
