Indigenous Services Canada plans to evacuate remaining medical personnel from Kashechewan First Nation on Monday, with those needing medical attention directed to Fort Albany First Nation. Chief Hosea Wesley reported that three deaths have occurred since evacuations began due to ongoing issues with the community’s water treatment plant, which is under a state of emergency. Most of the 2,300 residents have been relocated, while about 300 remain, including children. Wesley criticized the lack of concrete action regarding the community’s long-discussed relocation to higher ground.
