Georgia Judge Thomas Cox invalidated several new election rules, including a hand-count rule for Election Day ballots, approved by the state’s Republican-controlled election board, calling them “unconstitutional” and in violation of state law. Cox ruled that the board had no authority to implement these rules, which were deemed “illegal, unconstitutional, and void.” The ruling comes as voters in the battleground state began early voting, with more than 300,000 ballots tallied on the first day, breaking records from the 2020 election.
