The Crown alleges that the killing of Gurjit Singh was a targeted, premeditated attack orchestrated by the 35-year-old accused, Rajinder, driven by personal resentment. During the trial in Dunedin, Crown prosecutor Richard Smith outlined a clear chain of events leading to Singh’s brutal death, where he was found with 46 stab wounds outside his home. In contrast, defense counsel Anne Stevens KC argued that the case relies on circumstantial evidence, lacking direct confession or eyewitnesses. She suggested the possibility of an alternative assailant responsible for the murder.
