Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) leader Gen. Joseph Aoun is the leading candidate for Lebanon’s next president, with key political bloc endorsements following Hezbollah’s preferred candidate’s withdrawal. Aoun, a career military officer with strong ties to the US, is seen as a unifying figure who has maintained the LAF’s integrity amid political and economic turmoil. If elected, Aoun would need a constitutional amendment due to his current position, but faces optimism from Prime Minister Najib Mikati and support from France, Saudi Arabia, and the US.
