Joaquin Guzman Lopez, son of infamous drug lord “El Chapo,” has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and continuing criminal enterprise in the US. To avoid a life sentence, he admitted to overseeing the production and smuggling of fentanyl, cocaine, and other drugs, primarily through underground tunnels. He was arrested last year alongside cartel leader Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, whose lawyer claimed he was kidnapped by Guzman Lopez. Their capture intensified violence among Sinaloa cartel factions, while Guzman Lopez’s brother, Ovidio, also entered a plea deal for similar charges.
