A 20-year-old man named John Tekuru, who attempted to abduct a 3-year-old girl from a Rotorua daycare with the intent to sexually assault her, has been sentenced to two years in prison. He appeared in the Rotorua District Court and has been in custody since the incident on March 10 last year. Due to New Zealand law, Tekuru is eligible for automatic release after serving half of his sentence, meaning he will be released in just over six weeks. This case has raised significant concerns regarding child safety and justice.
