A Jesuit priest prefers prison over a fine to draw attention to climate change

Jesuit priest Rev. Jörg Alt chose to serve a 25-day prison sentence in Nuremberg instead of paying a 500-euro fine for participating in a climate activists’ street blockade. The court ruling stemmed from a sit-in protest in August 2022, where Alt and others blocked traffic to raise awareness about climate change. Alt, known for his vow of poverty, cited solidarity with fellow activists facing similar treatment as his reason for opting for prison over paying the fine.
