According to a new United Nations report, Jakarta has become the world’s most populous city with nearly 42 million residents, surpassing Dhaka and Tokyo. This reflects a broader trend of rapid urbanization, particularly in Asia, where nine of the top ten most populated cities are located. By mid-century, Dhaka is projected to take the lead with 52.1 million people. Meanwhile, Jakarta faces significant challenges, including overcrowding and environmental issues, as Indonesia plans to relocate its capital to Nusantara.
