Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Matteo Salvini has proposed a law to withdraw Italy from the World Health Organization (WHO), citing Donald Trump’s decision to do the same. Salvini, leader of the far-right League party, believes Italy should no longer be part of a supranational power center funded by Italian taxpayers and connected to multinational pharmaceutical companies. He suggests using the saved funds to support the sick in Italy and improve healthcare infrastructure.
