Italy has approved the construction of a €13.5bn ($15.5bn) suspension bridge to connect the mainland to Sicily, expected to create 120,000 jobs and reduce ferry crossing time from 100 minutes to 10. The project, first proposed in 1969, faces environmental concerns and aims to meet NATO’s defense goals while ensuring organized crime is kept out.
