Israel Presses On With Strikes in Gaza After U.N. Cease-Fire Resolution
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Israeli military continued its bombardment of the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, despite a United Nations resolution calling for a cease-fire for Ramadan the day before. Israel remains determined to keep fighting.

The military reported hitting “over 60 targets” in Gaza and operating in central Gaza, where they killed “a number of terrorists.” They also confirmed the death of a senior Hamas leader. The Palestinian Authority’s news agency, Wafa, reported that Israeli strikes on residential areas killed many people.

The Israeli military mentioned ongoing operations around Al-Amal Hospital and the town of Al-Qarara in southern Gaza, targeting terrorists and their infrastructure. Al-Amal Hospital was forced out of service after being besieged by Israeli forces.

Israel also continued its assault on Al-Shifa Hospital, claiming to have found weapons and eliminated terrorists. Witnesses described days of fear at the hospital, with patients dying as a result of the assault.

Israel has accused Hamas of using hospitals in Gaza for military purposes, a claim denied by Hamas and hospital administrators.

In a news conference, the Israeli military announced the targeted killing of Marwan Issa, the deputy commander of Hamas’s military wing in Gaza.

Despite a U.N. resolution passing, residents like Ezzeldine al-Dali have little hope that the bombardment will stop soon.

The International Court of Justice ordered Israel to prevent genocide and increase aid to Gaza, but did not call for a halt to fighting.

Reports of Israeli strikes on residential areas in Gaza could not be independently verified, and the Israeli military did not respond to requests for comment.

Aaron Boxerman contributed reporting.
