Israel was responsible for 84 out of 129 journalist killings in 2025, making it the deadliest year on record for the news media. The Committee to Protect Journalists highlighted a culture of impunity for attacks on the press by Israel’s military. Most of the victims were Palestinian, with Israeli air strikes also targeting staff in Yemeni newspaper offices. The CPJ warned that the true number of journalists killed by Israel could be higher due to press restrictions and difficulties during the conflict in Gaza.
