Israel has confirmed the killing of Hamas Gaza chief Mohammad Sinwar on May 13 during a strike on a hospital, amid ongoing tensions over a proposed ceasefire. Sinwar, who took over leadership after his brother Yahya was killed last October, has not been confirmed dead by Hamas, though Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu stated he was “eliminated.” Hamas has sought amendments to a U.S. ceasefire proposal, offering hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, but U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff labeled their counter-offer as “totally unacceptable.”
