Iranian authorities reject the EU measures, denouncing the IRGC blacklisting as ‘illogical and irresponsible’.
The European Union has designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist organisation” due to its violent crackdown on protests, prompting Iranian officials to denounce the decision as hypocritical and damaging. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas emphasized that repression must be addressed, as the EU also imposed sanctions on 15 individuals for human rights violations. Iranian authorities have reported over 3,000 deaths linked to protests, blaming external forces for the unrest. Tensions have escalated further with U.S. military threats against Iran amid the ongoing crisis.
