In southern Iran, artist Adel Yazdi revitalizes the Narenjestan neighbourhood in Shiraz through vibrant paintings and relief faces, transforming dilapidated walls into a cultural and tourist hub with intricate designs in vivid colors. Drawing inspiration from Persian and Islamic heritage, Yazdi’s work, including the face of Scheherazade, has become a social media sensation and tourist attraction, attracting visitors like Mahdieh who discovered his murals on Instagram. Living and working in a century-old building with a traditional Persian style, Yazdi hopes to create a vibrant cultural center in Shiraz akin to the Pompidou Centre in Paris, with unique installations like the “Finger Room” reminding visitors to seize the present moment.
