Iran accelerates production of near weapons-grade uranium, IAEA says

The United Nations’ nuclear watchdog report reveals that Iran has increased its production of near weapons-grade uranium to 274.8 kilograms, up from 182.3 kilograms in November 2024. This development comes amidst rising tensions between Tehran and Washington following President Trump’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal and the killing of Qassem Soleimani. The IAEA warns that Iran now has enough uranium enriched to near-weapons-grade levels to potentially make several nuclear bombs, putting pressure on Trump’s administration as he considers negotiations with Iran while maintaining sanctions.
