Actor Angie Harmon, known for roles on “Law & Order” and “Rizolli & Isles,” shared on Monday that an Instacart driver fatally shot one of her dogs during a weekend stop at her home.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police corroborated parts of her account, stating in a release that no arrests have been made, no charges have been suggested, and additional witnesses will not be pursued.
The authorities mentioned that the driver informed officers that the dog attacked him upon his arrival at Harmon’s residence on the southern side of the city just before noon on Saturday, leading him to fire a single shot in self-defense.
“Another dog was on the premises but did not engage in any aggression,” the police report stated.
The driver was there to deliver “consumable goods,” according to the police statement.
Instacart, in a statement, revealed that they had suspended the driver, made contact with Harmon’s household, and are collaborating with law enforcement.
“We were deeply saddened and disturbed by this incident,” the company expressed. “We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of violence.”
Taking to Instagram on Monday, Harmon, aged 51, mentioned that she was at home with her daughters when their dog, Oliver, was shot.
“He delivered the food, got out of his car, and THEN shot our dog,” she recounted. “Our [Ring] camera was charging inside the house, which he noticed, and then realized he was not being recorded. The police released him because he claimed it was ‘self-defense’. He did not have any marks or bites on him, nor were his pants ripped.”
The actress, a two-time People’s Choice award winner for her performances on cable television, stated that the driver remained indifferent even as the family grappled with devastation.
She recollected the man saying after the incident, “Yeah, I shot your dog. Yeah, I did.”
Harmon had previously described the dog as a German shepherd.
The driver’s identity has not been disclosed.
