Inhumane videos recorded of 2 residents

In Nukerke, a residential care center in East Flanders, inhumane videos were recorded of two residents with advanced dementia being mocked and filmed by an intern during a 10-day internship in September 2023. The scandal, which now involves four institutions and multiple suspects, has raised concerns about supervision in care homes and has prompted an investigation by Flemish Welfare Minister Caroline Gennez. The footage showed psychological abuse, not physical, and authorities continue to probe the extent of the scandal, with a total of 13 victims identified across the facilities in Meerspoort, Kortrijk, Gavere, and Nukerke.
