After three years of negotiations, 62 cultural items from First Nations, Inuit, and Métis are set to return to Canada from the Vatican. This repatriation, viewed as a vital step toward reconciliation, includes an Inuvialuit kayak and items representing various Indigenous cultures. A delegation recently held ceremonies in Rome as the items began their journey, which will conclude at the Canadian Museum of History for examination. While the return is significant, leaders emphasize the need for continued efforts in repatriating more Indigenous artifacts held by the Vatican.
