The top auction price for modern Indian art nearly doubled to a record-breaking US$13.75 million at a Christie’s sale in New York on March 19. The unexpected price was achieved for a rare painting by M.F. Husain, a prominent modern artist in India, selling for four times its estimated value. This significant increase surpassed previous records in the Indian art market.
