India's inflation falls for third straight month to 4.31% in January, making case for further monetary easing

India’s headline inflation dropped to 4.31% in January, marking the lowest level since August 2024 and below expectations of 4.6%. Food price inflation also decreased significantly, with vegetable prices showing the biggest decline. The easing inflation could pave the way for another rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India, following its recent reduction to 6.25% to support the slowing economy.
