A UBC study led by Dr. Laura Schummers revealed a 49% increase in the monthly dispensing of long-acting reversible contraceptives, such as IUDs and arm implants, following B.C.’s policy of providing free prescription birth control. Dr. Renee Hall, medical co-director at Willow Clinic, noted a shortage of doctors to meet the heightened demand for IUD insertions.
