Thirty years ago, Netscape Communications and Sun Microsystems announced JavaScript, an object scripting language for interactive web applications, developed by Brendan Eich in a 10-day sprint in May 1995. Although it was publicly released in September of that year and reached version 1.0 in March 1996, JavaScript has become the dominant web programming language, running on 98.9% of websites. Designed for web interactivity, it combines elements of Java, Scheme, and Self. Today, JavaScript is widely used beyond browsers, powering servers, mobile apps, and more.
