The International Energy Agency has agreed to release 400 million barrels of oil from its members’ strategic reserves to address soaring global energy prices amid the US-Israeli conflict with Iran. This release is larger than the 182 million barrels released in 2022 during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. IEA executive director Fatih Birol emphasized the need for global collective action in response to major disruptions in oil markets.
