Hurricane Erin Rapidly Intensifies
Hurricane Erin has escalated overnight to a Category 5 storm with maximum winds of 160 mph and is projected to strengthen further as it moves north of the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico this weekend. Flooding and landslide warnings are in effect for nearby islands, while the U.S. has deployed FEMA personnel to Puerto Rico as a precaution.
