The UN’s latest discussions on freedom of religion or belief highlighted Hungary’s ongoing religious discrimination issues and the misuse of the FoRB space for political battles instead of protecting religious minorities. The Special Rapporteur’s report outlined Hungary’s systemic restrictions on religious freedom, including biased laws and preferential treatment of select Christian denominations. Hungary dismissed the findings, attacking the UN’s credibility, while other countries turned the debate into diplomatic squabbles rather than addressing real religious persecution.
