Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto announced that Budapest has secured an indefinite exemption from US sanctions on Russian oil and gas imports, despite a White House official stating the exemption is for one year. Prime Minister Viktor Orban met with President Trump to negotiate this reprieve amid sanctions on Russian firms. Hungary plans to diversify its energy sources by purchasing US liquefied natural gas worth $600 million, as it heavily relies on Russian energy. Orban emphasized that without this agreement, energy costs would have significantly impacted Hungary’s economy.
