Armed men in Sudan have raped hundreds of children, some as young as 1, amid a devastating civil war entering its third year, with 221 cases of rape documented by health providers in 2024, involving 147 girls and 74 boys, including children under 5. Victims suffered serious physical and psychological harm, with some infected with H.I.V. and other diseases. The conflict, marked by atrocities and ethnic killings, has displaced over 11 million people and both sides have been implicated in sexual violence, with survivors facing stigma and difficult choices regarding disclosure and parenting.
