Johannesburg, South Africa – Mary, a 36-year-old mother living in Soweto, has been living with HIV since 2008 and recently disclosed to her daughter, Lita, that she too was born with the virus. Both receive support from the community organization Crystal Fountain, which provides medication and food vouchers, but their support is jeopardized due to potential cuts to U.S. foreign aid that funds crucial HIV programs. Currently, South Africa faces a staggering HIV epidemic, with approximately 7.8 million people living with the virus, highlighting the urgent need for continued support and resources.
