Beginning May 7, Real ID will be required for domestic flights and federal facilities, but not everyone may need one, according to Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias. While a Real ID won’t be necessary for driving, those flying should consider getting one sooner due to increased demand, with select DMV locations offering “Real ID Saturdays.” Other acceptable forms of identification for domestic flights include passports, DHS trusted traveler cards, and military IDs, among others, as per the Transportation Security Administration.
