Holidaymakers in Catalonia, particularly in Barcelona, will face doubled tourist taxes under an agreement between the Catalan government and Comuns. Rates for 5-star hotels will increase from €3.50 to €7 per night, while cruise ship passengers will see rates of €6 for stays over 24 hours. The increase, expected to be ratified on February 27th, aims to address housing access issues and has faced opposition from the tourism sector in the region.
