A report by Shelter and Engender charities highlights that Scotland’s housing emergency is disproportionately affecting women due to higher rates of poverty and reliance on social security benefits, limiting their access to housing. Research shows that around a third of households with a female head are in the social rented sector, compared to fewer than one in five households with a male head. Last year, 75 per cent of single-parent households faced challenges in accessing affordable housing, exacerbating the housing crisis for women in Scotland.
