Residents of Hong Kong are competing to name the territory’s first locally-born giant panda cubs, born on August 15 and housed at Ocean Park. The male and female twins, currently known as the “Elder Sister” and “Little Brother,” will make their public debut and meet visitors for five hours daily, with the option for private visits available for a fee. The birth of the cubs has boosted tourism and raised hopes for the city’s economy, although caring for the pandas in captivity comes with significant costs for the park, which has faced financial challenges in recent years.
