Homeland Security officers conducted welfare checks on migrant children at two Los Angeles elementary schools but were denied access by school principals. Superintendent Alberto Carvalho criticized the agents for falsely claiming parental authorization, stating that the schools are not places of fear and his district will not be intimidated. The Department of Homeland Security clarified that the checks aimed to ensure the safety of unaccompanied minors, not for immigration enforcement.
