A severe Arctic cold front is set to sweep across much of the U.S., plummeting temperatures by up to 30°F below normal this weekend, particularly affecting the central and eastern states. A strong high-pressure system will push cold air south, leading to snow and blizzard conditions, especially around the Great Lakes, with accumulations reaching two feet in some areas. By Monday, the Southeast will experience historic temperature drops of 25-35°F below normal, marking a significant early winter event. The extreme temperature contrast will create a ‘dipole’ effect, with freezing conditions in the East and unseasonably warm weather in the West.
