Christos Stavrianidis, a veteran Greek hiker, died after falling into a 2,600-foot ravine in Fraktou forest following a bear encounter. He and fellow hiker Dimitris Kioroglou were attacked by a bear, which Kioroglou described as defensive, leading to Stavrianidis’s fatal fall. Stavrianidis had previously discovered the wreckage of a Greek warplane in the forest and was working to make it more accessible for visitors, emphasizing its natural significance.
