The victim, identified as the driver of a van, tragically lost their life in the collision with the truck, as reported by the Sûreté du Québec.

According to SQ spokesperson Camille Savoie, “Preliminary information suggests that it was the van that veered out of its lane and collided with the truck for reasons that are yet to be determined.”

The van driver was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead. The victim was in their 60s.

The truck driver fortunately escaped without injuries.

Savoie mentioned, “Reconstruction officers and an investigator were dispatched to the scene to examine the situation and provide clarity on the events that transpired.”

The investigation by SQ is ongoing.

As of 9 a.m. Saturday, Highway 50 remained shut down in both directions between kilometre marker 254 and Scotch Rd. in Brownsburg-Chatham, with no estimated time for reopening.
