After taking an 11-month backpacking trip around the world, former college gymnast Helen Hu unexpectedly returned to the sport and joined the Missouri Tigers for the 2025 season. Despite initially planning to move on from gymnastics due to back pain, Hu rediscovered her love for the sport during a training session with her former teammates. Head coach Shannon Welker offered her a spot on the team, and with the support of her friends and teammates, Hu decided to compete again.
