Heidi Alexander appointed new transport secretary after Louise Haigh resigns

Heidi Alexander has been appointed as the new transport secretary, replacing Louise Haigh who resigned after admitting to a criminal conviction for making a false report to police. Ms. Alexander, previously an MP for Lewisham East and a justice minister, now takes on the role after serving as Sadiq Khan’s deputy transport mayor. Questions about Sir Keir Starmer’s judgement arose when it was revealed that he had appointed Ms. Haigh to his shadow cabinet in 2020 despite her disclosure of the offence.
